Friday Oct 5 1917 Dont say anything about this either to anyone (crossed out) around town or when you write as I expect the mail will be [?] soon Dear Dot Rules and regulations read to us today require that we do not tell anyone under any circumstances when or where we are going or the point of embarkation or name of the ship so when it comes time to go I will write a letter stating that "I am still enjoying good health" and you will know we have started from here but of course I won't tell where we are going because it would mean a court-martial for me if my letter was opened and (crossed out my) It is done for our protection anyhow so the least we can do is observe the rules. I dont think we will leave here for 2 weeks or more but we may so I when I say
