it is. The boat formerly was a passenger liner and was [?] at the start of the war and of course when the U. S. went into the war was [?] and the crew taken to Fort [?] or? N. Carolina and the boat repaired and bunks built in here [?] made into a transport. The next morning we woke up with nothing but water and 9 other ships in sight There were 3 other transports and 2 cruisers and 4 destroyers. The transports have two guns forward and two aft. and the destroyers could fire a broadside into a sub and sink her in a minute so we were not afraid of subs until we were asked to keep our life preservers on night and day and were given our places on life rafts and then we though maybe there was some chance for a sub. The first day we had three meals but since then we have only had two per day
