issued 12 sacks of Bull Durham 2 sacks of [illegible] and 2 pkgs of Piedmont cigarettes and at 4 oclock we had a big feed of turkey mashed potatoes and gravy with cake with lots of nuts in it and hot biscuits, and figs and we had all we could eat. The day before 14 of us borrowed a dollar apiece from Lieut Newquist and chipped in and bought a lot of jelly bread coffee apples and dates and we had a good feed but it takes a millionaire to buy anything here but bread is cheap seven cents a loaf and made in the shape of a doughnut and of a dark brown color and very coarse it has a sour taste but is better than hardtack. Dont send me chicken as I am afraid it will be soiled but jelly or jam or a can of strawberries would sure taste good but it takes about 3 weeks for any thing to get me from home. And be sure and put them in a yeast foam or Bon Ami box
