Tuesday Jan. 29 /46 (Manicani P.I) 8:00 PM Hi Scuttlebutt, Its about time I was shooting you a little bull and tell ya how much I like to get the Scuttlebutt. Got another mighty welcome one today. You can put me on your permanent list. I've got the big sum of 14 pts. now. Only 25 more months oversees and I'll have enough for a discharge, Yea Man! Manicani is a big Ship Repair Base about 5 miles off the S.-E. corner of (Samar) & also just across the bay from Leity . There are about 5000 home-sick sailors stationed hear. There are a couple dozen floating dry docks out in the harbor. One of them is the biggest one afloat. It docked 3 Battleships including the "Iowa" and is capable of docking any ship afloat. I'm a Security Guard. On duty 6 hrs. & then off for 12. I'm on watch right now guarding a big warehouse the 91st Sea Bees evacuated when they pulled out. If I get caught writing while on watch I'll get either 50 hours extra duty or 5 days in the brig but I ain't figuring on getting caught. Got h--- scared out of me this morning about 2:00 when I heard a strange noise back in the spookie part of the warehouse. After about 5 minutes of saying to myself, "What'sa matter Brewer - are ya scared to investigate" I got up enough nerve to sneak back there. I never knew whether it was a Native, with one of those big bolos they always carry, or mouse. Poked my light around a corner and saw, to my relief, a 8 inch tail dissapear. I brethed once more. Sure a lot of Scuttlebutt going around. Best balony I've heard so far is "Manicani is going to submerge the latter part of Feb. It does it every 399 years and this is it. " Boy! I sure hope so. I'll swim over to Samar or Leity and try (cont. on page II.)
