Apr 14th not relieved from picket probably owing to the fact that the officers are nearly all drunk over the joyful news which was recd this morning that Lee had surrendered to Gen Grant, while I am writing I can hear the cannons roaring & the bells a ringing but nary a drop of whiskey has made its way out to my post, Just dark we were relieved 15th I expressed home a box containing an over coat & some shells
