June 1865 deranged, the ball entered his forehead & came out the back of his head causing instant death. one regt of our Brig (the 107 Ill) start for home at 10 1/2 oclock in the afternoon we attend Stevens' funeral nearly the whole regt turn out he was buried in the soldiers burying ground (on the east side of City) with military honors.
