officer came up and told the Capt our billets were ready and come to find out we were not to go into the trenches that night but were to stay in Hagenbeck as reserve and to guard battalion H.D.Y. but I would just about as soon have sent to the trenches for Hagenbeck is decidedly a German town and the spies were as thick as fleas. and Guard duty was no snap but It wasent only a few days until they found K. Co. wasent to be monkeyed with. and no lights flashed from the church tower or windows. an M.P. told me we had the best Guard that was ever posted. we stayed there six days and finaly went into the trenches to relieve
