Fairbanks, Iowa Saturday May 24th, 1884 Friend Mary: I received your ever welcome letter some time ago I was glad to hear you were well and contented, I hope this will find you the same, I suppose you know I am teaching the Backholt school, I have taught 4 weeks. I am boarding at Howard I have 15 scholars, I saw your step mother in Fairbanks 2 weeks ago to day, and I saw your father last Monday he was planting corn for Mr. Howard, Florence was over here Wednesday she said the folks were all swell
