I had a very [illegible] time the fourth I stayed at home in the day time, went to see the fire-works in the evening. (Saturday) Monday went to West Union came home Tuesday. I hope you & Sidney had a good time, I think Sidney would have a [fair?] chance to beat me those hot days for I was almost melted. I am very thankful to you for speaking a good word to that young man for me no one appreciates a friend any more than I do. Mary Elle is making up lost time, [short?] old Jones, it is the young [illegible] ... that the almighty Father of all may bless you, and Sidney, and render you all I could wish, so the heartfelt [appreciation?] of your loving and affectionate friend Ella M.
