(4) mation of cases and persons by termination [illegible] the resemblance of words as υλη sylva, χιστα cistus, σακος saceus the Σκανδαλον is properly that piece of wood in a pit for wild beasts, wh: when trodden on by them, precipitates them into the pit from σχαζω "to trip" or (as some say) the bait of a mouse trap because it stops the mouse. The English bishop & the French evêque [illegible] (anciently biscop & evesque the first being taken from the last part of the Greek word the latter from the former part) are both derived from the Greek επισκοπος. Church derived from κυριου οικος, contracted into Kyrioik.
