Receipt against the Plague Take of [Rum?], Sage, Mint Rosemary Wormwood and Lavender one handful of each infuse them together in one gallon of white wine vinegar, put the whole into a stone pot closely covered up when wormwood sokes for four days after which strain through some flannel put the liquid into bottles well corked and into every quart bottle put a quarter of an Ounce of Camphor with this preparation wash your mouth and rub your loins & your temples every day sniff a little up your nostrils when you go into the air and carry about you a bit of sponge dipped in the same in order to smell it upon occasions especially when you are near any place or person that is infected some person wrote that from malefactions he had robbed the infected homes and murdered the people during the course of the plague owned upon they came to the to the gallows that they
