Cucumbers. Mother Pour boiling water, made quite salt. over your cucumbers in the morn, when they are first picked. - let them stand until next morn. - then wash them clean - then have weak vinegar, boiling hot & pour over them, let them stand until the next morn, - then take the same vinegar - boil it & pour it over as before. - then let them stand until the next morn. They are then ready to put in bottles with spice & vinegar - new. Sweet Pears. Mrs Dunbars Pare them. leave stems & all in- scald them until they begin to soften a little. - to 7 Lbs Pears 1 qt Vinegar. - 2 1/2 Lbs sugar - stick in a few cloves 1 or 2 ox. Cassia buds. Boil the vinegar and sugar then put the pears in & boil them hard 5 for 7 minutes.
