Cover with bread Lay a plate on the top & bake in a good over till the bread is a lightly brown Other fruits may be used. Butter a [?]-dish [?] fill with layers of bread crumbs & baking apples & sugar & a little grated lemon rind. Put pieces of butter on the fruit. Put a layer of crunch at the bottom & cover with thin [?] of buttered bread Pour half a cupful of water over & bake till the apples fall
