Saving...
supper, and now study and recreation. On the march we hiked with light pack and rifles over rough roads along the bluffs overlooking the Mississippi. Our company was the only one that toted a load, but we came in as lively as the rest. We eat like hungry men, all right. Bare pine tables, tin mess dishes, and rough but substantial fare look as good as a banquet to most of us. A lot of the boys are eating things they would scorn at home and calling for more. Many of us still lack leggins and army shoes; otherwise we look like sojers. I'm feeling finer than silk. Bushels of love, Conger Address: 12th Company, O.T.C. Fort Snelling, Minn.
