THE FORT SNELLING TRAINING CAMP FORT SNELLING MINNESOTA PM 10/6/17 Daphne, my beloved,- In the quiet evening, now that the last tint of sunshine is gone from the purple arbors, I come to sit on your hearth rug and weave my tale. The shadows without are cool, and the darkness stretches evil hands to clutch; but here we shall warm our souls at the fire of love while we solve the mysteries that the day has made. Fanciful little introduction, isn't it? And no sense to it? I had just been wondering if I could write after the Oriental fashion; so I tried it as one way of avoiding our Anglo - Saxon "Yours received and contents noted." One of the luxuries of my life is the reading of stories of India and China done in that mystic style, all honey-laden and half impossible to understand. I'd give anything to be able to write them.
