did because I simply had to have her. I'm heartily ashamed of myself, but I think you'd believe I'm a real girl and not a bit "independant" if you were here now. When I was in Germany I swore by all that was black and white that I'd be able to act just as womanly and brave as those poor things did, but I have fallen down miserably. I don't care. I don't want to be like any old German and I hate them all and we are going to show them, aren't we dear? You and I -- and perhaps Uncle Sam -- "we'll fix it." I have been wondering how you'll enjoy knowing that all my silver is in the Mary Chilton pattern. I haven't very much but Mother Chilton started me out that way. They are very proud of being "kin" to Mary Chilton.
