everything and seems to know a lot. We talked about the war (how extraordinary, eh?), the Queen of England, places of interest in Washington, Paris, New York and elsewhere, social and political conditions in Germany before the war, French aristocracy, sea voyages, you, - and, my word! I don't know what all else. The dinner and conversation lasted from 6:45 until 9, and we had an after show in their apartment. One of the most entertaining features was Mrs. Sanborn's description of the things her maid does. They brought her when they came back from France two months ago. She knows practically no English and consequently, gives them no end of entertainment by her adventures with the butcher, baker and others. She is much impressed by New York, and also by our new three cent postage stamps. So she buys postal cards of the tall buildings, writes little messages, puts on three-cent stamps, and
