be mustered again for tow [sic. two] months more lords knows when we will get our pay. Last night we knocked ovr a calf that a oll [sic. ole] sesech has had fatting all summer and we had a fine stew feast. This morning it is nice weather. Same now but pretty cold nights for to lay out in but nothing after you get use to it. I got a letter from Aunt Nic and cousin Emma Cuykendell and have writen [sic. written] to her but have not answered Aunts and canot [sic. cannot] untill [sic. until] I get some paper and postage stamps. Excuse my writing for I have nothing but an old pencil and a sesech account [sic. account] book for a desk. Hurrah for muster more after muster is over and I shall have to stop Direct as I toll [sic. told] you before and write soon from your Affectionate Son C A Gates To father A Gates
