had their guns pointed for us but we got around on the left of them and got across fire on them and is was unexpect to them. We have not heard any thing from them today. Falmouth is under the hill from where we are it is quite a place. Across the river opposit of Falmouth is the City of Fredericksburg where old Mcdowell lay all last sumer. the country around here is the best I have seen in Virginia, very level. The timber is mostly scrub oak and pine. I do not how long we shall stay here but I think not long. The rebs have burnt all the bridges here. The Aequia Creek railroad
