Falmouth Va. Friday Apr 17, 63 Dear Father I have just received your letter that brought the sad news of Abirams death it found us all well. I have long expected to here of his death. It is hard to lose our friends & rilatives [sic. relatives]. I thought when we left Abiram at Bolivar that we never should see him againe [sic. again], but he has gone through his last campaign which was the hardest one, but god knows the one on the Peninsula last sumer [sic. summer] was harde [sic. hard] enough but there is where he contracted the disiese [sic. disease] that layed him low.
