Our old captain has got back, he looks first rate. The boys feel a great deal better when they captain is along with us. We are haveing [sic. having] a good deal of raine [sic. rain] here now. The grass is up as green and nice and the peach trees are in full bloom and sumer [sic. summer] has comenced [sic. commenced] in ernest [sic. earnest] in Virginia. We have layed [sic. laid] here now most 6 months. Now I should think it is about time to make a move. Here it is the 22nd of April last year we were on the march the 10th of March and did not lay still much till we came here. I wish I could come home long enough to get some sugar to eat but I canot [sic. cannot]. I got a letter from Dewitt Matthires and one that Abiram wrote to me the last one he ever wrote.
