Number Six 2/2/18 My beautiful femme, - At last in France, the thing I most want to do is to talk to you. So I take the only possible way of doing it. The first thing after arrival I sent you a cable. But as the company does not promise to get cables through in any time less than three weeks, you may receive this letter ahead of the cable. Incidentally, let me explain that my signing the cable from England "Reynolds" instead of more familiarly was to conform to company regulations. We left merry England soon after I last wrote to you. The sun was smiling on the green commons and the holly bushes. It was hard for me to realize that it was January. As we passed a holly shrub I grabbed the enclosed leaf to send you as a souvenir.
