ceremony. We have been here three days, which is the longest stay we have made anywhere this side of the water. Incidentally, this is the fifth place we have stopped. But on the whole, the progress of our group toward our main destination has been much more rapid than that of many others who have preceeded us. In several places officers have waited as long as two weeks merely for orders to proceed. This has been a lovely day. It was like April at home. This morning, before our orders came, Arthur and I took a stroll out the highway and visited a 12th century church. "Bien vieux," as an old peasant who came along remarked over and over.
