go badly at all. This morning we dug up some rations left over from the former long trip and made out a good breakfast on tinned bully beef, cheese, jam, and hard tack. We spent the afternoon getting billets. So many officers had come ahead of us that this was not easy. I landed in a place about a mile and a half away from headquarters on the edge of the open fields. The house has a very unprepossessing exterior but seems clean inside and as agreeable as I could expect to find under the circumstances.
