Here they are luxuries of the most extravagant sort, - so much so that one speedily realizes how little he has appreciated them back home. Some soldier has written some verse on this subject that tells the situation very cleverly - if somewhat indecently. If I can get hold of a copy I may send it to you. 
I have written cards to-night to a lot of fellows whom I have neglected for a long time; some of them I had hardly thought of since I left Snelling. Writing to them I recall many rather enjoyable times of last summer and fall. One of the fellows that I had picked for our party that first Saturday night. He couldn't go; so I took Frank Appleby, - and thereby developed an odd situation - eh wot? 
There are a few incidents of those times that I shall never be able to understand. One is why you had to have Ginger hanging around the night I came in with my commission. I was feeling 'appy, of course,
