little, chintz-covered tables ranged along the walls. I suspect one could drop a plumb line into any room in this house and strike a man who never spent much time in a Y.M.C.A. at home but considers it next to heaven over here. It's as an officer remarked this morning as he sank into an easy chair before the fireplace - "By God, the Y.M.C.A. is the only warm place in town." I spent the morning - or rather part of it - here reading the story of the town. It goes away back. The book doubled my interest in some of the historic spots I visited yesterday afternoon in the course of an hour's ramble. We had been released from work at 3 o'clock. Our instructors had seen that we needed a rest from the very intensive application which the course had required of us. Lieutenant Pope - New York man - and I set out for a stroll. As is ever the case I can't tell you much about it
