We ended in a little patisierie - French for a cake-shop - and had a tasty little cake and the best chocolate I had found in France this time 'cept once. I acquired a passionate taste for chocolate when I was here before. That was when milk was always available. Now the distribution of milk is regulated so that it goes where it is most needed. The quality of the chocolate in cafe's and other places catering to adults has consequently suffered. After dinner - or supper as it is at an ordinary army mess - four of us bought a supply of sweet stuff - cakes and dates and bar chocolate and had a party around the fireplace in a hotel room one of the crowd had taken for the evening.
