of more agreeable association I found the banter and chatter and song that filled the program with them a good way to defeat the depressing influence of the dark town and cheerless atmosphere. Also the "eats" were good stuff. Army fare is sustaining but tiresomely plain. After about a week of it, a fellow feels like buying up a candy store and having a spree. I stuck faithfully to the mess all week, but tonight my face will be missing. I'm going to present it before some madame and demand a soup and salad and French bread and jam. Oh, it will be a spree!
