it difficult for him to find time and place in which to spend any large amounts. His great ambition is to get a fire going in the joke of a stove that has been installed in our room. Of course, he doesn't know the first thing about building a fire. I've nearly bitten my lip in two watching him pile paper and wood into the thing and make efforts to get a fire going. He invariable fails. Last night another of the fellows did get a fire going. I was staying around for the evening so I got some wood and coal and nursed the fire along so that the stove got genuinely warm. The stovepipe had several leaks in it, though, which soon filled the room with so much smoke that we had to keep the window open to keep from asphyxiating. There was no chance of heating up the room. About 10 o'clock - C- came home carrying a pair of bellows.
