rifles peppered the front. Bye and bye the "enemy" was dislodged, the trenches taken, and the battle over. It had been a fine Fourth of July celebration, with new features. I quite enjoyed it, and got the most definite idea of what modern fighting is that I have yet acquired. Indirectly, I received word today that Zim has been sent on a ten-day visit to the French front and is having a perfectly good time as the petted guest at the headquarters. I'm having a helufa time getting this letter written. Fat Stewart is sitting on a stool talking most of the time - some of the stuff so funny that it utterly distracts my attention even from so interesting an occupation as writing to my wife. Now I'm going to begin cramming for the exam that is to end our course. Thank Gawd it's only a few days away now. The best love in the world, sweetheart - it's all yours. Friend Husband.
