Mon nite (8-11-42) Dearest:-- Mon. nite, today went fast was a good day not so hot, very good eats, not to hard work. I answered a hundred different questions about my time off it is a special deal to get time off all the Iowa boys had something to ask about. Got your letter at noon today. Done little extry duty for an officer this evening that will get me off kitchen duty when my turn comes. Wish you would send my grandpa shoes some time when you are not
