Poor Man's Cake Mrs Sevindale. 1/2 cup molasses, 1/2 cup sugar, 2/3 cup water, 1 tea spoon soda, 1 egg, butter size of an egg. Frosting for same. 1 cup seedless raisins, 1 cup of sugar boiled to a thread, whites of 2 eggs well beaten mix all together & beat well. Caramel Sauce Brown sugar in a frying pan until a light coffee color, add one equal measure of water & simmer until the sugar dissolves, Good either hot or cold. Mrs Sevindale's recipe for yeast & bread Peel 4 good sized potatoes, & boil in about 1 qt water, mash through colander, & add while boiling hot, small 1/2 cup sugar, 1 table spoons salt, & 1 good big table spoon lard stir in flour till its good & thick, let stand until warm & then add 1 yeast cake dissolved in 1 cup of warm water. Let stand over night in a covered, next morning sift 3 qts flour in a big pan
