For swelling of Tonsils. make pills of burnt sponge & honey. Burns & Scalds. Take soot from a chimney - rub it fine & mix 1 part soot to 3 of hogs lard or any kind of fresh grease (be sure it is not salted) - spread on old linen or soft cotton. 1/2 a gallon is 1/4 of a peck 1 gallon is 1/2 of a peck about 25 drops of any thin liquid will fill any common sized teaspoon 4 tablespoons or 1/2 gill will fill any common wine glass. 4 wine glasses will fill 1/2 pint or common tumbler or a large coffee cup. 10 eggs generally weigh a pound before they are broken. 1 tablespoon salt is generally about 1 ounce. 1 quart is generally about equal to 1 pound avoirdupois.
