This species resembles M. polymorpha but its fronds are much coarser and more brittle and sometimes attain a length of five to six inches. A vertical section of the frond PL.XI. fig. 1. shows a similar arrangement of tissue. The ventral epidermal structure is a single layer of simple colorless cells from which root hairs arise.
