[page]54.[/page] -er obliquely ovate and involute. The margins are nearly entire. On the ventral surface the amphigastria are well developed. They are rounded in outline and one to two cleft. The parianth is obovate, acutely fine angled above, and opens by five valves, PL. XVIII. fig. 3.a. The calyptra is obovate in outline and ruptures irregularly at the apex. It is also persistant [persistent?]. The sporogomium is globular, borne on a stalk not much longer than the parianth, and opens by two valves. The elaters are attached to the apex of the valves and are unispiral. PL. fig. c. The spores are circular in outline, of a greenish yellow color and minutely muriculate.
