[page]59.[/page] Jungemania ventricosa, Dicks. is a minute form found growing on decaying wood. The cells of the stem are not elongate, but, like those of the leaves, five to six sided to rounded. In the leaf the cells are arranged in a single layer and contain protoplasm which is arranged in two distinct parts; a narrow marginal chlorophyll bearing portion and a colorless central portion. At the apices of the leaves are numerous globular cells which become detached. They are budlike gemmae. In these the outer layer of protoplasm
