[page]70[/page] IV Determination of the value in arc of one revolution of the micrometer screw. A great deal of the best work of our observatory depends upon the micrometer of the telescope. The Accuracy of all measurements with this instrument will depend both upon the fineness of the instrument and the accuracy with which the constants have been determined. The fixed and movable wires of the instrument being placed at any given distance, they will subtend an arc of the heavens evidently depending upon the focal length of the objective lens of the telescope.
