The telescope is directed to some star preferably near the meridian and the micrometer is then turned until the star in its movement follows along the transverse fixed or guiding wire see [?cut?] page 69. The movable wire being set at any desired number of revolutions from the parallel fixed wire, the time of transit is then observed of the star across teh fixed and movable wires, by the clock. This observed interval of the wires is then reduced to the equatorial interval as in observed transits with the transit instrument.
