ITEM---Hubbard will be in the Bay Area next week. He'll speak at the Oakland Auditorium at 7 p.m. September 23rd --- $1.50 admission --- and will conduct a series of fur classes at the Oakland Auditorium Theatre Tuesday, September 26th thru the 29th at 8 p.m. There is no truth to the rumor that Dianetics, Inc., plans to purchase the Angelus Temple in Los Angeles. The building will remain with Aimee Semple McPhersons' successors. ITEM--- Hubbard developed a new method of treatment which he called "GUK" and which is being used extensively in Los Angeles. It involves dosing the preclear with terrific quantities of all known vitamins. As a result the preclear practically audits himself. In a week or so of permanent reverie, he is expected to completely relive every pain he has ever experienced. After which he is expected to be a clear. Chemical clear, that is. PERSONAL NOTES ON DIANETICS. . . . . . . After two readings of Hubbard's ASF article, your editor was criticized by the faithful for "attacking" Dianetics before reading the book, which unfortunately was not yet available. When he had read the book, his critical questions were still met with a stoney "You don't know anything about it since you haven't tried it out." So now I've tried it out but not thru. Between auditing three different people, being audited by two and witnessing two other persons being audited, I have spent over forty hours "trying it out." I don't claim to be an authority but I do think I've earned the right to ask a few questions. Now for an incident that occurred at the NORWESCON. After the Dianetics discussion Sunday night, several of us were gathered in Sykora's room for general chatter. Some wanted to know more about dianetic procedure and after considerable urging I offered to demonstrate how reverie works. Now understand, Hubbard says anyone can do it. It isn't necessary even to have read the book. Admittedly, it is generally inadvisable to demonstrate before a group of people. Inadvisable, but not uncommon. Hubbard further emphasizes that Dianetics, no matter how small the dose, can hurt no one. Even if therapy is not continued, he claims the effects are bound to be beneficial. What I did was simple enough, and standard dianetic procedure. Taking one apparently level headed fan, whom I shall call "X", explained reverie, put her in it, installed the canceller, and proceeded to roll a recent pleasure incident, which led quickly enough to a late (meaning, after birth) engrammic incident, that is, the recounting of the memory of a painful experience. "X" obviously received quite an emotional charge, after the engram had been run several times, I sent her back to a more painful incident in early childhood, involving an irrational feeling of guilt. She later said she had quite forgotten this experience. After the engram had been cleared. I returned her to a recent pleasure incident and cancelled and brought her out of it. The affair had been highly impressive, as "X" had become quite emotional in reverie. Some of the witnesses felt the whole affair was staged. Several fans spent the next two hours insisting that I try it on them. I did finally consent to repeating the process and went through an hour with another fan, "Y". Nothing noteworthy or impressive resulted. --- 6 ---
