I simply abominate any serious discussions at table, and nothing excites my wrath more easily than for some one to discuss what things cost, while a meal is in progress. (Beware! Never say "Wife, how much is butter a yard at present," if we are at table, or I shall probably wave my soup plate wildly over your haid.) Poor Helen! She wept into her dish of pumpkin pie and whipt cream -- a terrible thing to do to such good eats. And this makes me think -- I believe I'll take a trip to the pantry after I've finished writing and have another slab of pie. Want to join me? I made the pie, and modesty forbids me saying more, but it eats easily, to say the least. Ernest and Martha have just left. I get so lonesome for them if I don't see them every day! Of course we all visit over
