a confession to make, but really dear, I think it happened because I'm so new at this way of doing. Before I never stopped to figure things because I had always my salary coming, see? You've been so good to me that it's drefful for me to do this, and I'm so sorry! It's been drefful hard to learn how to manage, and if I didn't have Mama, I couldn't. Things are fearfully high. I wanted oranges when I was sick, and they are $1.50 and $2.00 a dozen. Needless to say, I lost my appetite for them. Every thing is the same. If I could have found a less expensive place than this, I'd have liked it, but Julie can testify to the fact that we chased all over town and this was the best we could do. Helen pays $25.00 a month, and I thought that would help out, but it doesn't do as much as I thought because of the cost of eats. And we are very careful about what we buy, too. Maude & Emil have sent us such quantities of things that I can't raise Helen's board, but she's been used to having anything she wants, believe me.
