57. This class is composed of those animals commonly known as sea-urchins. In shape the body is cardiaform, discoidal, or more or less globular. The test or shell is composed of a large number of calcareous plates, usually immovably joined. The intestine is wrinkled or folded, the anus distinct but its position varies. This order contains those Echinoids which have a test made up of more, seldom less, than a score of rows of plates.
