[page]105.[/page] Dorsal valve, convex, no mesial fold. Ventral valve slightly more convex than the other, flattened or slightly depressed in mesial region, hinge area small, foramen triangular, well defined, beak prominent, projecting beyond beak of other valve, incurved. Surface of both valves marked by very fine radiatig [?radiating?] striae, by concentric striae, and by lines of growth. Size.-- Not exceeding three fourths of an inch wide, nor five eighths of an inch long. Notes.-- The size given here if for S. linneatus as found in America. S. linneatus described by British authors is much larger. Geol. Pos.-- Widely distributed but not abundant in Upper Carboniferous Figured in Final Report U.S. Geol. Survey of Nebraska, Plate II.
