THE FANZINE SCOPE PRESENTING IN THIS INSTALLMENT [[illustration text]] FANS IS NUTS SOAP TK AAHHH! SARDONYX !! U.S. MAIL FANZINES BY THE TON?? PLUS SELECTED SHORT SUBJECTS... [[end illustration text]] by Francis T. Laney - - - JoeK should e highly flattered at the tenacity with which his dear readers have latched on to the first issue of this sterling fanzine. My two attempts to get a copy have proved wholly abortive. OK. I'm a sucker, a stubborn one for that matter. In addition to the Finlay original I offered last time, I'll offer a pair of framed Pauls. The pics originally appeared in either Astonishing or Super Science; one shows a first class Paul space ship, and the other shows a life raft with a man and woman on it gliding down towards the lights of a large futuristic city. These measure about 10 X 12, and are framed uniformly. There you are, people, three framed originals offered in exchange for one measly copy of the #1 Vamp. And this is my last offer. any takers? - - - I had the pleasure of entertaining Bill Evans as a house guest for a week recently. Bill mentioned to me that he was not only "going to" index Spaceways; he'd already got the job half done. A deal was concluded whereby he'd finish up and stencil the listings and I'd see to it that it was mimeographed. So Tucker had best look to his laurels. Bill also corrected an error in the last installment of this column. I attributed the pseudonym "Joe Socar" (out of the issue of Snide in The Denventioneer) to damon knight. Bill, who was coeditor of Snide, tells me that Socar was actually Ron Holmes, of England. I trust that this bit of information will not at this late date expose our British friend to any libel suits! - - - Gus Willmorth tore the hell out of the last two columns on the grounds that there was too much Laney in them, that they'd be vastly improved if there were some quotations and reprints included. So, with vast aplomb and a complete lack of permission, I'd like to reprint a brief article written by one former fan and published by another. Trudy Kuslan was one of the - 10 -
