Fantascience Digest Jan-Feb 1939 Vol 2 No 2 Editor Robert A Madle Assistant Jack Agnew Associtate George R Hahn Contributing William C Conover Published bi-monthly at 333 E. Belgrade St Philadelphia Pa Subscription rates 15 cents per copy, two issues for 25 cents, or 75 cents a year. The Editor's Message Need I make mention of the fact that all our plans, as announced in the editorial of last issue, have materialized? Of course, the production of this issue required quite a large sum of the root of all evil, and unless subscriptions commence pouring in, we'll be minus our shirts. Pardon me; I shouldn't have stated in the above paragraph that all of our plans have materialized, for they haven't. I stated that the issue would contain 30 pages, but the best we could do was 26. I hope you'll excuse this inconsistency, and you may rest assured that the next issue will definitely contain 30 pages, as announced last issue. I believe you'll agree that the material presented in this issue is among the best ever offered [to a?] fan magazine reading public. I hope to continue giving you the best in fan material, and this can be brought about by a deluge of articles, short stories, news items, and everything else that goes into the production of a fan magazine. I think I am doing right in including fiction in FD, even though out of our readers doesn't agree. It is very difficult to fill thirty pages entirely with worthwhile non-fiction because we do not receive enough of the latter. Consequently, I believe a short story or two will be a welcome addition from all viewpoints. The art work this issue is probably inferior to that of previous issues. However, I can guarantee that this will be remedied by the next issue. At the present time our artist has but one stylus and consequently can get very little variety in the way of shadowing, etc., into his drawings. I believe you'll agree, though, despite the fact that he was working under this handicap, Agnew turned out a nice cover illustration. The interior work, with the exception of the illustration for "Out of Space", is also done by Agnew. "Out of Space" is illustrated by J.V. Baltadonis. Several improvements are on the fire, chefi of which will be a heavier paper for the cover. Also, sometime in the future we are going to inaugurate two-color covers, which will be something new for mimoed fan mags. Other improvement will follow, if the support is right -- RAM
