Page 18 FANTASCIENCE DIGEST CAN YOU ANSWER THESE? -conducted by Robert A. Madle- Many readers commented on the fact that the questions were too easy last issue. I agree -but definitely! You can rest assured that they'll be just a wee bit more difficult this time -- but please; don't write in telling me they were too hard! There were but four questions lat time, and here are the answers: 1. Forrest J Ackerman is the recognized scientifilm authority. 2. "The Science Fiction Series" were a group of booklets published by Hugo Gernsback. 3. THE TIME TRAVELLER, the first real fan magazine, was edited by Allen Glasser. 4. Edgar Rice Burroughs is the author who novels have been translated into Braille for the blind. Commencing with this issue, this department is going to be enlarged and many more questions will be asked. To make it a little more interesting, I'll add an extra issue of FD on any subscriber's present subscription if he, or she, manages to obtain 100% for the following questions. Whether this will be continued indefinitely remains a moot question. Anyway, see what you can do with these: 1. The cover of the first issue of MIRACLE, SCIENCE AND FANTASY STORIES, was painted by whoM? 2. Who was the youngest person ever connected with a professional science fiction magazine? (next column) 3. A science fiction author noted for his satiracle novels is: (a) Clark Ashton Smith (b) Manly Wade Wellman (c) Stanton A. Coblentz (d) Otfrid Von Hanstein. 4. Where did Buck Rogers first make his appearance? 5. True or false: T. O'conor Sloane became editor of AMAZING immediately after Hugo Gernsback evacuated the post. 6. One of the following artists was [[underline]]not[[end underline]] represented in any of the ASTOUNDING STORIES published by Wm. M. Clayton: (a) Paul (b) Marchioni (c) Wesso (d) Orban. 7. This one may appear difficult, but it isn't, really. Name a well-known science fiction author who has had five novels published (correction: [[underline]]six[[end underline]] novels), all of which have been awarded cover illustrations. 8. What is the name of the Weird Tales' writer who, although he was the most popular writer WT had, couldn't cop a cover. P.S. He sold two stories to a certain science fiction magazine, and [[underline]]both[[end underline]] received cover illustrations! 9. "Phalanxes of Atlans" was written by: (a) Edmond Hamilton (b) David Lasser (c) Leslie F. Stone (d) F.V.W. Mason (e) Marius. 10. AT one time A. Merritt threatened to sue (in fact, he commenced) AMAZING STORIES because a certain author allegedly plagiarized one of his stories. Name this author. There you are! Ten simple questions. Simple, that is, if you know your science fiction. Write your answers on a slip of paper and ship it along to me, c/O FD. Remember; if your answers are correct, you will receive an extra issue of FANTASCIENCE DIGEST.
