"A Temporary Increase in the Neutron Component of Cosmic Rays" Phil Mag 41, page 505 (1950) by: N. Adams and H. J. J. Braddick ---------------------------------------------------------------------- "Optar -- A New System of Optical Ranging" Electronics, page 102 (April 1950) [ no author -- Dr. Kallman's work ] Very ingenious device for measuring distance from an illuminated object range of a few inches to a few hundred feet Depends on formation of optical image -- i.e., convergence of pencils of light (and dark) from the lens to the image. Rotating toothed wheel produces maximum modulation when plane of wheel is in image plane. -- (931 A phototube) Also modifications using a spiral transparent dish ruled with different spacing a different parts of spiral. So that most prominent frequency indicates image place.
