2 May 1955  ̄ ̄ ̄ By phone, Mel Gottlieb advised me that he had decided to remain at Princeton at Project Matterhorn indefinitely, and would therefore resign from State University of Iowa. He will become associate director of the project, at a first class salary ~10,000/year. I told him we were very sorry to have him leave State University of Iowa but were quite unable to match this salary and that I personally felt that it was a very good job for him. (Formal letter of resignation received about ten days later)
