On 15 August I went to Cambridge, Massachusetts and on the 16th I gave a set of all day lectures on "Scientific Uses of High Altitude Rockets and Earth Satellites" for an M.I.T. summer conference on "Orbital and Satellite Vehicles" -- arranged by Professor Paul E. Sandorff of M.I.T. On the 17th I met Abbie and Cynthia in New York and we saw the E.B.Nelson family of Iowa off on the "United States" for their trip to Cambridge, England for 1956-1957, on National Science Senior Fellowship at the Cavendish Laboratory. Professor [C.? E.?] P. T. Tyndall had called on the 16th to say that Professor G.W.Stewart had died that day.
