On 21 January received telephone call from Frank McDonald in Guam. ($28 + tax for 7 minutes) (a) ship carrying balloon gear hadn't arrived until the 19th (20 in Guam) Was now unloaded. So nothing had been done yet in way of flight. First flight would probably be made on Friday the 25th. (b) Cahill had been having trouble getting his magnetometer to work properly and had been very busy the entire time (about 2 weeks). He now has two flight apparatuses in good shape and expects to finish the third today. (c) Johnson has his ground based unit working well and has been recording the daily variations, etc of the field on Guam.
